First ACS ENVR/SETAC NA Student Exchange Recipient Selected

Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry

The Awards Committee of ACS ENVR has selected Usman Khan, a graduate student at McGill University, as the first recipient of the $1000 travel award to attend the 2009 Annual Meeting of the SETAC North America to be held November 19-23 in New Orleans Louisiana.  Mr. Kahn will make a platform presentation entitled: “Measurements versus modeling for predicting environmental risks posed by the presence of pharmaceutically active compounds: A Canadian case study.”  SETAC NA has waived all registration fees for Mr. Kahn.  Next year SETAC NA will provide a similar monetary award to allow one of their student members to attend an ACS National Meeting.  Both organizations are committed to insure that exchange awardees are placed in highly visible sessions and that there are student colleagues available for interaction with each awardee. This exchange program will continue for at least three years,  at which time both organizations can assess the benefits of student interactions among their organizations.

Students interested in this award should explore details of the selection process on the awards page of this website.  ENVR sincerely believes that such interactions increase scientific discourse among younger scientists and that will ultimately increase the excitement and desire to continue productive careers in Environmental Chemistry.
